Preparations are now underway
for our 35th Winter Season and we are again anticipating
about 120 teams. We expect the league to fill up quickly this
season, so slots will be awarded on a first come first serve
basis. ABOUT THIS SEASON... The Lawyers
Basketball League is proud to invite you, once again to our Garden
Party to be held at our newest facility, The
World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. Your
firm could have the experience of a lifetime. For those who attended
last years event you know how exhilarating and momentous it was
to play on the floor of The Garden.
Here's how it works. Win your division, advance to play other
LBL divisional winners at your skill level (ie. BI v BII), and
then proceed to an Inter-league Championship Game against one
of the divisional winners of our sister league, The New York
Corporate Basketball League. The Inter-league Championship
Games will be held (schedule permitting) at Madison Square Garden
in Mid-April. All in all, the potential for a 18+ game season.
In addition, each team registered for the Winter 04-05 Season
will receive five (5) tickets to The Madison Square
Garden 51st Anniversary Holiday Festival featuring: St
John's, NC State, Columbia, & Canisius. If any firms
wish to obtain more tickets contact the league office.
As to the regular season, it will be
structured similarly to last year. Each team will play two (2) pre-season
scrimmages starting the week of November 8th, followed by a twelve
(12) or fourteen (14) game regular season - your choice! It all
culminates in the grand playoff tournament detailed above.
All teams that win their Division receive championship
plaques. Once again, all teams that make it to The
Inter League Championship game receive handsome Lawyers Basketball
League Jackets and team trophies. Also, in response to requests
from several firms, we are introducing an expanded offering of
LBL apparel. Last year we offered Lawyers Basketball League
double-lined Mesh Shorts. This year we are offering in
addition, top quality Lawyers Basketball League Sweatshirts.
See the application form for details.
As in prior seasons, the league will be divided into competitively
balanced divisions to ensure even match-ups through out.
WHO'S ELIGIBLE
TO PARTICIPATE... Lawyers Divisions: The Advocates, Barristers, Counsellors, and Defenders
will have the same eligibility standard as they have had since
1986, to wit: each roster of twelve must consist of players that
are either Attorneys, Law Students, Paralegals plus up to three
"outside" professionals, i.e. clients/friends. Every
roster member must be at a minimum a four year college graduate.
Paralegals must work for their sponsor. For further information
about these divisions, please view the League
Rules.
All-Firm
Personnel Division: This is the eighth
season for this division, designed to accommodate teams that
have had difficulty over the years meeting the League's eligibility
requirements or who already have a "back office" team
that participates in another league. All players must be employed
by the sponsor firm. There is no college requirement for "back
office" personnel, but all team members must be 21 or older.
The team must be captained by a Lawyer - who must be present
at each game. Please note that while accessing "back
office" personnel may energize your team, you will be playing
against teams who have chosen the same roster composition. For
further information about this division, please view the League Rules.
Next month, we will be organizing the Law School
Division - Open to students currently enrolled in law
school.
TEAM ENTRANCE
FEE... The basic team entrance fee
for the winter season remains the same as last year - $2,650.
Teams that wish to play an "expanded season" or have
multiple intrafirm games may elect to do so by payment of additional
fees (see the Application for details). Checks should be made
payable to the Lawyers Athletic League, Inc. and are due ASAP.
As always, such factors as preferences for game nights, times
and uniform choices are primarily determined by the order of
receipt of the entrance fee. Even though many teams are a composite
of individual players, please remit only one check in full payment
of the entrance fee. Thank you.
REGISTER ONLINE... It's easy to register a team online! Simply
click the link below, fill out your application form and
