Preparations are now underway
for our annual Summer League and we are again expecting about
100 teams. As you know the League is a great activity for Summer
Associates, and in fact was originally conceived as a way for
firms to meet the recreational needs of law students they were
hoping to attract to New York City. In case you haven't heard the Inter league
Winter Season Championships at Madison Square Garden were
once again a great success.
Congratulations to all teams that made it to The World's Most
Famous Arena: Akabas & Cohen, Schulte Roth
& Zabel, Kaye Scholer II, Hughes Hubbard and Reed, Baker
Botts, Mound Cotton and Brooklyn Law. All of the
teams exhibited great sportsmanship and represented their firms
and our league with great pride. |

ABOUT
THIS SEASON... |
|
This Summer each team will be placed in a competitively balanced
Division and play one pre-season scrimmage, the week of May 24th,
followed by a nine (9) game regular season; then, teams that
have accumulated eight (8) standings points will be invited to
a two week playoff tournament commencing in early August. The
season begins June 7th for late entering teams.
All teams that win their respective divisions will receive
the traditional Championship Team Plaque and again this season
will also receive Championship Lawyers Basketball League reversible
fleece jackets.
In response to numerous requests from many firms we are adding
Official LBL Sweatshirts to our exclusive line of LBL apparel. |

WHO'S
ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE... |
Lawyers Divisions: The Advocates,
Barristers, Counsellors, and Defenders will have the same eligibility
standard as they have had since 1986, to wit: each roster of
twelve must consist of players that are either Attorneys, Law
Students/Summer Associates, Paralegals, plus up to three "outside"
professionals, i.e. clients/friends. Every roster member must
be a four year college graduate. Paralegals must work for
their sponsor.
All-Firm
Personnel Division: This is the third
season for this division, designed to accommodate teams that
have had difficulty over the years meeting the League's eligibility
requirements or who already have a "back office" team
that participates in another league. All players must be employed
by the sponsor firm. There is no college requirement for "back
office" personnel, but all team members must be 21 or older.
The team must be captained by a Lawyer - who must be present
at each game. Please note that while accessing "back
office" personnel may energize your team, you will be playing
against teams who have chosen the same roster composition. |

SOFTBALL
& SUMMER ASSOCIATE SCHEDULING CONFLICTS... |
|
Many firms that participate in LBL also play softball during
the summer. If your team communicate's its softball schedule
to the League office, then we will attempt to create your basketball
schedule in a way that avoids those conflicting dates. Likewise,
we will attempt to schedule around all of your summer associate
events. |

TEAM
ENTRANCE FEE... |
|
The team entrance fee this summer is set at $1,900 - payable
to the Lawyers Athletic League, Inc. The deadline to enter your
team is rapidly approaching. Please reserve your place by notifying
the League office ASAP. As always, such factors as preferences
for game nights, times and uniform choices are primarily determined
by the order of receipt of the entrance fee. |
